Purdy said the “dynamic is great,” attributing that to the diverse background of each quarterback, such as Allen backing up Joe Burrow in Cincinnati, Darnold previously working at Carolina under long-time NFL quarterback Josh McCown, and Lance providing familiarity. Nothing was cringeworthy, either.Īfterward, the top three QBs were asked about that revamped quarterback room, which saw Garoppolo come and go with injuries since 2017 before his free agency departure this spring for the Raiders. Nothing was revolutionary, although amateur quarterback coaches raved about Lance’s revised throwing mechanics after studying social media videos. In Tuesday’s 7-on-7 drills, Purdy was an observer while Lance, Darnold and Allen carried out their jobs in mundane fashion. Lance and Darnold high-fived each other as they rotated spots during Tuesday’s practice, and all quarterbacks speak highly of their growing chemistry and communication. Allen is only getting a couple of snaps in team drills, which was enough for Purdy last summer to show his potential, mind you. Lance opened OTAs taking all the first-team reps, while Darnold gets his feet wet with his third team in four years. 10 opener at Pittsburgh.Ĭontingency plans are in place. If Purdy’s recovery stays on track, that could make any quarterback competition relatively moot if he’s available for the Sept. As a follow on from my contribution I was asked to write an article for the Scotsman newspaper, on the impact on my life as an unpaid carer looking after my husband with dementia. I’m delighted to say that I was contacted in December 2020 by email, giving me the link to the published report, which was also sent to MSPs. The project was well presented and fully explained, and the finished report was to be published and widely available for various bodies including Scottish Government. This interested me because I could see a deadline for the finished report, and for the first time I was not writing about dementia, but my experiences during lockdown and caring for my older sister with her various health conditions. This was a short term, 3 month, partnership between UWS and Oxfam Scotland, looking at the personal stories of a wide variety of carers, in a variety of caring situations. The purpose was to highlight how Covid had affected carers whether professional, paid or unpaid. I was approached by a UWS professor to contribute to a case study research project – “Care, Poverty and COVID-19: Personal Stories”. My latest venture into research was during lockdown in 2020. Top tip for researchers: This is not the type of research impact we want to see or report in our REF submissions! I do this through talks, reflecting nine years of life affected by Vascular Dementia, but I also want to make a difference in other ways not least through contributing to research. The simple reason is that when I joined NDCAN, I did so prepared to help others through sharing my lived experience. You might be thinking, well if research made you feel like this, why did you keep saying ‘yes’. I also have no idea if the research was valuable, published or just wasted. How did this second experience of research and radio silence make me feel? It was 2 years in our lives which I feel were wasted and we can’t ever get back. Again, we were never told whether he took a trial drug or placebo, and the experience made my husband more stressed because he was aware during the practical assessments of his continuing decline. At the beginning, he was very enthusiastic, and I was willing to cooperate for his sake, but after 2 years funding was withdrawn and the project stopped. I was also committed to attending with him and completing forms and online assessments regarding my perception of his condition and recording any changes I became aware of. It involved him taking various health and mental tests to monitor any deterioration or changes in his dementia, but he also took medication without knowing if it was a new drug, or a placebo. He saw TV adverts at the time for volunteers to take part in a drug trial at …… which was close to where we lived. When my husband was first diagnosed with Vascular Dementia he was in denial that there was no treatment available. Top tip: Feedback and saying thank you to research participants is not an optional extra, it shows respect and valuing. This was my first experience of research and I found the purely ‘data on demand’ stance somewhat demoralising. Perhaps I’m at fault for not contacting the company to ask for feedback, they certainly don’t hesitate when they want something from me. The downside to this kind of research participation is that it is over a very long time, and despite taking part, I have no idea where the information is now, how it’s being used, or even if was useful. They were researching how immunity is built up and how quickly, and as I had already received my first vaccination, I agreed to do the test at home and send in my results. We were called back 10 years after the first session, to repeat the tests again, then heard nothing from the company until 3 weeks ago, when I was asked if I would take a Covid Immunity test. My husband and I joined BioTech over 20 years ago and were subjected to various physical and medical tests, recording our health at that time. Like others in NDCAN my experience of taking part in research has been focussed on dementia. So when the opportunity to get involved in a research about Advanced Dementia, I was very interested although a newcomer to research. Our organisation, linked to Alzheimer Scotland, is involved in campaigning to improve the lives of unpaid carers and their loved ones who are living with dementia. I have been an NDCAN member for the past 3 years and until recently research has felt like something others do. Marion is just one of many people we have been speaking to their experiences of involvement in dementia research. This is the third blog in our new series, read the rest here, and stay tuned for more to come by following us on Twitter. In today’s Research Involvement blog, we are featuring Marion Ritchie, member of the National Dementia Carers Action Network (NDCAN) who has been involved in research for many years. Act as though you are the one honored by the introduction. But if you don't expect a perfect performance, you're less likely to overthink and stumble over your words. In social interactions, it's easy to overlook the potential upsides and instead obsess over all the things that can go wrong. Harvard Business School social psychologist, Amy Cuddy, has studied first impressions and found that when meeting someone for the first time, we form not one impression, but two. In our shaving we didn’t have any nicks, cuts, or irritation. If you have hair on your face, it will definitely shave it, and it will do it comfortably. Overall, shaving with the Hydro 5 Sense is decent. So how does the razor actually do the job? There’s a lot of technology packed into a small package - all designed to help you shave better. You can also move the razor left and right instead of it being held solid. When connected to the razor handle there is some “play” between the razor head and handle. Of course, the cartridge also pivots, pushing back easily to move over the curves of your face. The entire yellow plastic area at the top of the cartridge pushes back completely out of the way, allowing you to use the razor with less obstruction so that it can get closer to where it needs to be. Need to shave with precision for spots like right under your nose or on your sideburns? Unlike many razors that have a single precision blade on the back of the cartridge, the Schick Hydro 5 Sense solves the problem in a different way. The strip is made of plastic, but features seven reservoirs that hold the embedded lubricant. On this razor - the “Energize” formula that contains menthol - it came in a bright yellow. The most eye-catching feature of the handle of course is the lubrication strip at the top of the cartridge. Of course, the cartridge contains five blades, and at the base is a grey rubber area to help pull your skin taught before the razor passes. Schick has put a ton of design into the cartridge as it has a number of features. It’s a bit frustrating to want to lock the handle and not have it completely held in place. On our razor, however, even with the lock enabled, the head would still pivot some - about a quarter of the way it goes when unlocked. Simply slide it up to lock the handle in place, making it a typical static handle. It doesn’t move as easy as you’ll find with a pivoting razor cartridge (which this razor also has).ĭon’t want the head to pivot? On the underside of the handle is a lock. It takes some decent effort to push the head back. Schick calls this “Shock Absorber Technology.” The idea is that as pressure is applied, this pivoting head will keep the razor firm on your face, but also provide some give to go over curves like the chin and jaw. This large area moves back an estimated 20-30 degrees. Here you’ll find the pivoting head on the handle. Wet or dry, this handle is not slipping out of your hands.īut move up to the head of the handle and you can see that there is something unique about this razor. The weight is decent and the grip - despite not being covered in deep treads - is very good. A mix of chrome-colored metal, overlaid with generous rubber grip (the entire underside is completely covered in rubber), it looks like an average razor. Take a look at the handle of the Hydro 5 Sense and you might not notice anything too different, until you get to the top of it.įor the most part the handle looks fairly generic. The Hydro 5 Sense has a lot of engineering that goes into both the handle and the cartridge, making it one of the most unique razors we reviewed. For our test, we selected the Hydro 5 Sense “Energize” which comes with lubrication with menthol supposed to “wake up tired-looking skin.” Razor Design Inside the package came the handle, as well as two Hydro 5 cartridges. That means all the packaging is recyclable and easy to open. We bought our test razor on Amazon, where it came in retail packaging, including a cardboard box with plastic casing. But while the Schick Hydro 5 does provide a good shave, some of the features actually took away from the experience for us. It’s all designed to give you a better shave. Like other razors that we consider to be in its class (including Gillette’s Fusion5 ProGlide) there are a ton of features and technology packed into a small package. This double action provides more movement compared to what you’ll find in other razors, all designed to give you a closer shave that takes better care around the curves of your face. What makes the Hydro 5 difference is that the handle also has a pivoting point (Schick calls it “Shock Absorb Technology”). But the most unique feature is the pivoting handle.Īll refillable razors will have a head that pivots back and forth. Coming in several different styles of cartridge (including Hydrate, Sensitive, and Energize), all the razors and handles in the lineup share several common characteristics.Īlong with five blades, the cartridges all have a wide lubrication strip to provide a smoother shave, as well as microfins at the base to help smooth skin before cutting. Shick’s entry into the five-bladed razor wars is the Hydro 5 Sense. Several of the first round draft picks and highest producing quarterbacks in the last several years have all scored exceptionally high on their Wonderlic assessment. The exception to this rule seems to be at the position of Quarterback, where the ability to think independently seems to be of greater advantage. A higher Wonderlic score is perceived as being indicative of the type of intelligence that makes a player think too independently. The idea behind this being that they want players that will follow directions and be a team player, not necessarily those that will think too much for themselves. In fact, it has been said that some organizations in the NFL often look specifically for players with a score towards the 50th percentile. While it may seem like the most sought-after individuals are those with the highest Wonderlic scores, this is not always the case. Wonderlic results can be scored on a bell curve, with the highest and lowest scores representing the highest and lowest percentiles, with the middle representing the majority of scores.Ī score of 16 or below represents roughly the lowest 25th percentile, a score between 17 and 26 represents roughly the middle 50th percentile and a score of 27 or higher represents the top 25th percentile, with a score of 40 or higher representing the top 1%. While a Wonderlic test is not an IQ test, its results can be charted similarly to common IQ tests like the Stanford-Binet or Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale. While “good” is a subjective term, to be above average one would have to score a 21 or greater on the test. What Is A Good Wonderlic Score? What Is The Average Wonderlic Score?Ģ0 correct answers out of 50 in the allotted time of 12 minutes is the average score for the Wonderlic test. So, if 26 questions are answered correctly, the test taker would receive a score of 26 out of 50. The 5-star ratings collected from 4 social networking sites was correlated with and predictive of the NHC and survey-based experience-of-care measures for Maryland nursing homes. The social media rating also predicted well NHC and experience-of-care measures after adjusting for nursing home covariates and market competition. The correlations between the social media rating and survey-based experience-of-care ratings ranged from 0.40 to 0.60, and the correlations between the social media rating and individual NHC quality measures of citations, nurse staffing, and complaints were about 0.35 (in absolute values). The overall ratings were 3.11 on average on these sites and 3.03 on the NHC website, with a Pearson correlation of 0.41 ( p < 0.001) between the 2 sets of ratings. One hundred ninety-six out of 206 nursing homes in Maryland were reviewed on at least one site and thus had one or more star ratings posted. We determined if the average score of social media ratings was associated with experience-of-care ratings derived from survey of family members or other responsible parties of nursing home residents, and with “Nursing Home Compare” (NHC) 5-star ratings and individual quality measures. We collected consumer-reported 5-star ratings of Maryland nursing homes posted from July 2015 to July 2017 on 4 popular social media or online review sites (Facebook, Yelp, Google Consumer Reviews, and ). Wallace was among the slate of twentieth-century Democrats who deployed the “Southern strategy”: increasing support among white voters by whipping up racist sentiment against African Americans.
